Thank you!

Thank you for all the kind christmas greetings! I am one spoiled lucky creature walking this planet!

I had a lovely christmas. I enjoyed lovely food, lovely company and received lots of beautiful gifts.

During the holidays I watched the whole season 3 of Downton Abbey. Oh dear, I am completely lost for Mr. Bates. My goodness, if any man would look at me the way he looks at his Anna, I  would probably die. No. I would be the happiest. Oh, and when Anna dances the reel and he looks at her and says, "she (Anna) is marvellous", I burst out in tears!

The weather has changed drastically! On wednesday afternoon I went out for a run and wore three pants (a pair of technical pants, wollen underpants and my running pants) and when I later walked home from a party in the night, the snow was melting!!!

Speedy angelband

I found this in a container, or in fact I think it was my friend Anna, who found it when we were digging through a container one late summerafternoon. It was neatly wrapped in silkpaper, inside the original box. I believe it to be from the 40's or 50's. I try to give it a good home. I enjoy the speedy angelband during christmas. And wrap it in silkpaper after the holidays and place it inside the box.

I wonder who it belonged to?

Merry Christmas to you all!

Ps. I might give the impression I have just found "video" in my camera, hence posting a second short film on the blog;)

Sunday, 16 December 2012

I was walking along a street in Helsinki, and found this in the snow. I picked it up and took it home. I glued it onto an old bookpage and framed it, as the frame was suitably lying on the floor;)
I believe it to be a dried Hortensia flower. Looks like clover. So from now on, everytime something good or lucky happens, I shall think it is because of the lucky clover that is a dried hortensiaflower.

In Finland, many people have a certain relationship to Billnäs furniture.

They made office furniture. The factory was located in Billnäs, a former ironwork village.

Even I have a relationship to Billnäs furniture. My great-grandfather worked at the Billnäs factory. And there is a little legend beeing told about how flirty he was. At a party, where the management was present, with their wifes (yes, this was at a time when there were extremely few female managers around), my great-grandfather danced with the wifes! And on the following workday, he was called into see the manager of the factory. The manager told him off, said it wasn't suitable behaviour to dance with their wifes. To this my great-grandfather replied "I wouldn't have to, if you all took better care of your wifes".

Well, above is a vintage Billnäs file-cabinet made 1949. Used as a stand for my mannequin from an older era.

We need cosy lights for this season.

Wollen socks, tea, some nice music and a purring cat and maybe and perhaps if you have a certain someone, warm kisses and holding hands is just simply lovely.

Rust and bones and hats

Tonight I watched De rouille et d'os (Rust and bones) at the cinema. A very powerful film. I am glad I wasn't alone.

Winter has been wonderful. I really enjoy the snow. Everything seems softer and lighter.

I'm meeting my friends for brunch in the morning, can't wait. We haven't met in a long time!

Wishing you a lovely weekend!

Above are a couple of hats I have and adore...

On friday we had so much snow, it was an endless task to showel. A man skiing along my street made my day! No, in fact the run I later made in powdersnow made my day. Afterwards I had a sauna and it didn't take long for me to fall asleep once my head hit the pillow;)

On saturday I sold items at a Pop-up shop, it was a lot fo fun!

Today I met my parents for 1st advent and tonight I am going to see the classic Shanghai express, can't wait to see it on big screen.

Wishing you all a wonderful 1st advent!

I spent the day in Tallinn. I have just arrived home, and shall now head out for a run and then weekly sauna in my house. Luxury!

I picked out a little scruffy icon-typed thingy in an small shop in the old town.

Tuesday, 20 November 2012

Started the day with some light-therapy and the funny thing is, as soon as I turn on the brightlight my sweet cat stretches herself in a comfy loooooong position and starts to purr;)

Have a lovely tuesday dear friends!

Bicykle bliss

It is so warm regarding it is november after all, so I have been out and about with my bike.
Above are a few of my bike-related pics on my wall. Not ready yet;) I dream of many many small framed bicykles...

Brightlight and vitamin D

The weeks just seem to fly past, even though I feel drained. I invested in a brightlight and vitamin D. I shall conquer this dark draining month! I have so much fun stuff to do! I don't want to feel as if it was impossible to get up to a new day in the mornings and feel completely exhausted when going to bed at night. Or just dream of beeing able to hide under the covers and cry a little, that's no way to spend a winter.

Stay in the light friends and have a good weekend!

Joshua James on Father's day!

On friday I saw a great gig by Joshua James. I thought it was so fantastic so I decided to try catch tonights second gig in Helsinki, and hoooooray - I managed to get tickets! On friday I met a swedish couple who had travelled to Helsinki just to see Joshua perform.

Happy Father's day to you all! I had coffee and cake with my own dear dad this morning.

Friday, 9 November 2012

Yes, the weekend is lurking just behind the corner...

...and I have a weekend with very little planned. Going to a gig tonight, brunch with a friend on saturday and maybe a release-party in the evening (if I feel like it!) .

Wishing you all a happy weekend!

Above is a scale with herbs in the window. I have a scale-thing going on in my kitchen, I like to use old scales for vegetables and fruit and flowerpots and herbs.

Some days

One would be oh so happy just listening to Erik Satie, Gnossienne No. 5 and read The love song of J. Alfred Prufrock by T. S. Eliot. And sigh.

Above is a little something I picked up in Stockholm, a glassframe. I love these old glassframes, as they are beautiful just the way they are, even without a picture to be framed.

Monday, 5 November 2012

Sunday morning walking from Söder to Gamla Stan via Slussen.

I had a lovely stay and I already feel I miss my friends. On saturday I attended a big birthdayparty and I completely fell for danceoke, it is such fun! Especially THIS song :D You know how much I love and live for dance, so it is so my thing...

Friday, 2 November 2012

I am spending the weekend in Stockholm. There's a big party on saturday and I am invited. Thought I spend some qualitytime with friends and want some time to stroll the streets, sit in cafés, search fleamarkets, look at the skyline...

My flight is at noon so wishing you a wonderful weekend!

Unmade bed above.

Monday, 29 October 2012

I am home again. After an intensive visit to Bonn. I have been invited to participate in a 2yrs long eu-project, with participants from Finland, Sweden, Germany, Malta, Italy and Turkey. And the next meeting will be held in Turkey. Hopefully I can extend my stay with at least a few days (on my own expense obviously), but timewise it looks a bit unrealistic :( But hopefully I can manage to work something out. It would be such a pity not to be able to see at least a tiny wee bit of the country/ or the city I visit. As I had no time to explore Bonn, we worked from 9a.m. to 6.30p.m. and then had dinner at a restaurant from 7.30p.m. and then head back to the hotel to finish reports etc.

Now I am spending qualitytime with my sweet cat, that has missed me plenty. But she had the best care whilst I was away - and I received wonderful reports daily of how loud her purring was;)

Gullegrisen is a pampering-name for my sweet cat in swedish. It means something like sweetypiggy...well, perhaps my sweadish friends have a nicer translation.

I did not have time to take pics as all my brakes were short and I had to make sure I got something to eat and some fresh air. The picture above is from a lunchrestaurant that served delicious salads and turkish treats. I loved the green colour and the dried roses.

I am most certainly going for a run tonight, though I have a deadline for a job tomorrow at one p.m. So I might not sleep very much tonight;)

Tuesday report

The weekend flew by!
A lovely saturdaybrunch and in the evening a crazy and wild 200yrs birthday party (4 x 50yrs). Met so many old acquaintances I felt I was in myb teens all over again;)
On sunday I attended the most beautiful namegiving ceremony. As one of the guests so well said, if you want to keep an image of love in your soul forever, this is it.

This morning I first voted in the municipal elections, as I am away on sunday when it is the official votingday.
And in the evening I played guitar, or practised as I have started taking lessons! And made avocado-pasta that everone seems to be eating in Finland. Due to a cookerybook that has recently been published and the recipy rotates on facebook, in the papers... I tried it last week but forgot half of the ingredients as I had no list with me in the shop;) So today I made the proper thing and it turned out quite nice.

You need half of a red chili (remove the seeds and chop) , a few gloves of garlic (chopped), one cup of olive oil, one cup of grated parmesancheese, one cup of  grated pecorinocheese, juice of one lime, one cup of chopped fresh basil and one cup of chopped fresh parsley, black pepper and two avocadoes in smaller bits. Stir and dance while you let your spaghetti boil until al dente (remember to use salt in boiling water). Mix and enjoy!

On thursday I was supposed to travel to Tallinn, but that has been postponed due to a force majeur situation. But early on friday morning I'm boarding a plane to Bonn and returning on monday.

So as my days will be busy I will wish you all a wonderful week and happy weekend!

Above is a nook in my kitchen. I have started to collect guilded frames to hang on the wall.

These boots were made for walking

Oh, so much going on in life and so little time to blog about it;) But I assume that is what we are all struggling with - to find balance. Not only regarding blogging, but in general.

Last night I went out running, it was fairly late, the night was mild and I run along paths in the forest and there was very little light.  I suddenly reflected upon the fact that I know these paths so well, I only need enough light to see were the path runs but I need not see the ground clearly. I trust!
Afterwards I enjoyed a sauna and fell asleep very happy!

This boot or shoe above was not really made for walking, but for holding ink;) Have been listening to this song. Makes me want to go for walkabouts in boots...

Saturday morning, looking out it seems it will be a beautiful crisp autumn day.
I'm just about to take myself to the swimmingpool and then off for brunch in a café with my dear friend Manuel.

Had a very good week. I also saw a few performances that I enjoyed and had friends over for dinner.

Have a lovely weekend dear friends!

Demanding tuesday

The weekend passed with friends and music, on sunday the annual Herring market kicked off for 270th time! In beautiful sunshine, I walked in the harbour, looked at the many many people whom had arrived, the beautiful fishing vessels, the air filled with sounds of market, the harbour, the seagulls, the scent of fish.
It was a beautiful day and I tasted some wonderful delicasies and some even found it's way to my home...

I'm soon jumping in water, time for a swim!

Above is my little bird, sitting on a book, giving me a demanding look!

An assistant

Last year when I made namesigns for a tv-show I had a very lovley assistant. She has far more experience now and has been very helpful;)
I cannot show you what the signs look like this year until the tv-show has aired - but as soon as - I will post pics.
The producer was well pleased with the signs, wow! I am very happy now!

Sunny saturday

And I've had the morning for myself, had brekky, listened to music, enjoyed my coffee, cuddles with my cat...
Now I'm off to the swimmingpool to do my usual 1000m swim...I wonder, am I a slave under my routines? You must think I am oh so terribly boring! Then to the music-store to get some new strings for my guitar.

Tonight I'm going to a party. Jeeee!

Above is a small geraniumplant  that has been on our stairs all sumemr, I thought she might like to live indoors and bloom until it is time to hide her in the cellar for the winter.

Wishing you a pleasant weekend!

Thursday, 27 September 2012

Smoothly. the hectic week is soon coming to it's end. Deadline tomorrow and I am already finished, meeting my client this afternoon to hand over my work. How is that for beeing afficient?

Then knitting (in my case I'll do some crochet-work) with some lovely ladies and off to the opening of a play tonight.
I'm wearing red pearls, red nailpolish and red lipstick. Dotted thights with black dress. It's very damp, so my hair has again gone compeltely wild and curly - well, that's life.

I'm going to enjoy a glass or two after the play and then head home and straight to bed as I have an  early morning and a meeting in town tomorrow. But then it's weekend again!

Whilst working I made plenty of apple-jam. Seen above.

The weekend

Saturday turned out a wonderful and sunny autumnday. I worked until the afternoon, met up with my friend at  the swimmingpool, I swam my usual 1000m and then we relaxed in the spa-pools for a bit (neither of us enjoy it for long) so we headed back home and dined and then in the evening we enjoyed a wonderful perfomance at the Kapsäkki theatre called Saudade - kaihon käsikirja. Bossanova tunes with very very nostalgic lyrics. As the evening was very mild, we walked home.
And left for Tampere in the morning. But someone forgot her camera at home, so you just have to take my word for it that we stayed in the most beautiful house in Pispala, we ate at the traditional Pulteri-restaurant (I had herring) and walked in rain and stormy winds and looked at the fabulous view and the lovely houses. We made a fire in the antique cast iron stove, lit candles, enjoyed wine and dreamed of moving there...

Took the train back early this morning.

I bought new running-trousers and shirt today and tested them in the evening. Great stuff to run in.

This week is hectic. Deadline on friday! But also plenty other things, wednesday my swedish friends are coming for dinner (I had dinner at their home last week). On thursday I am first meeting up with my knitting group in the afternoon, then heading to a theatre opening in the evening and hopefully I can enjoy a glass or two after - IF I have everything ready workwise (I hope so!) - otherwise I just need to continue work. Though, it is looking good and positive.

Have a great week.

Above is one of my kitchen scales.

Friday it is!

I had the afternoon off, so I managed to meet up with friends in a café. Lovely to chat away and hear what everyone is up to and enjoying cakes and coffee.

On my way home I purchaised parsley and parmesan cheese as I had a bag full of mushrooms waiting for me at home - I made risotto. But I forgot the wine!

Before dinner I went out for a fast run, I don't know why I decided to run so fast but it sure was fun and effective. I had to wait ages before I could shower as I was sweating so much!

Tomorrow I have a little work scheduled but on sunday I am going to Tampere and I am staying in Pispala. It is so beautiful there.  I shall be back on monday - wish I could stay longer but I have a few
meetings on monday I need to attend. Pispala will be there so I can visit again;)

Wishing you all a lovely weekend!

Above is a vintage mirror.

Good night!

Last night I attended yet another (and final) moonlight swim, this time at our swimmingstadium (an outdoorpool), located next door to the olympic stadium. I arrived closer to 10 pm. and the night was dark, a storm approaching and it rained. I swam my usual 1000m and after enjoyed the warmth in the sauna and felt such gratitude towards life itself.

Today I enjoyed brunch at a vegan restaurant with a dear friend. Then we walked into town in wonderful sunshine and saw a play in the afternoon at the theatre.

Now I'm home. No plans for tonight and that feels good. Just me and my cat.

I received an acknowledgment by wonderful Autuas olo. Kiitos. Liikutuin.
I forward the acknowledgment "supportive blogfriend" to all my blogfriends and readers and especially to A kiss from the past, G:a affären, Stroke of the brush, Dill and Parsley, Linnea på landet, Troc, Broc and Recup, more tea vicar , Quoteography, home and also Autuas olo for all the sweet kind supportive comments you have left.
Thank you all dear friends for leaving such wonderful comments and visiting my blog - I appreciate it very very much. I shall also never forget about the "risk" I took, soon two years ago, when my world fell apart and I decided to write about it here. The support I received was beyond my expectations and something I had never encountered before. I read all the comments and cried and felt each and every word sink into me and giving me strength. The e-mails with very good advise on how to cope in such a situation and the trust and the healing process that started.
I am very pleased with how my life has turned out and feel happy. My life is good.

I have myself not had the time to leave comments, not as often as I would have wished.

Thank you! Kiitos! Tack! I feel gratitude. Life is rich.

Slavic Birthdays

I am meeting my friend Louay this afternoon, it's his birthday. We shall have good coffee and huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge cakes!

I have been listening to wonderful David Gray, I have his Best of -album, and I love every song. Right now I get goosebumps from this one, enjoy!

Above are two lids from russian pots, I love the handpainted romantic themes and finish. I grew up with slavic illustrations in books, slavic animations etc. so I most certainly have a weak heart for slavic art. I hung the lids on my wall, as paintings.

...seems to just fly by!

I had a very hectic week.
My best friend A arrived on thursday evening for the weekend. We've enjoyed long walks in lovely crisp autumn weather, sauna, wine, dinners, cafés, sushi, fleamarkets, a consert and last night the last night cykling for this season.

Now it's sunday evening. I have a shiatsu-massage in the morning. Lucky spoiled me! Can a week start better?

I hope you've all had a wonderful weekend and wishing you a good start to the upcoming week.

Good night dear friends!

Above is a tiny tin amongst my books. Finnish runner Paavo Nurmi in running position on the lid.

A little report

On thursday me and my friends attended a moonlight swim in the sea, right in the city-centre of Helsinki. It was magical to swim in warm water under a beautiful full moon, fires along the shore and the firebrigade showering us after the swim!
On saturday, me and my friend, took a ferry over to a nearby island for a picnic. It was very windy and it started to rain almost emmediately when we arrived. We decided to go ahead with the picnic despite the terrible weather and found a little nook where we could hide and enjoy our delicacies. I had packed quiche, salads, hummus, tapenade, local ryebread, cheeses, fruits, wine and coffee and handmade chocolate.
When we finally got back home we enjoyed a sauna and some warm soup, plenty of candles and felt very courageous.

I just received a free ticket to Leonard Cohens consert in Helsinki. That should be good. I leave you with my favorite Leonard Cohen tune, A thousand kisses deep.

Above is a little bell hanging on my window, it has a very soft little sound.

Hatboxes and cats

...oh, found another hatbox at the fleamarket today.
If there's something I simply cannot resist, it's vintage hatboxes. The one I found today has got the bottom loose completely, so I shall repair that and also try remove the sticker/ label on the lid. I just adore the colours.
I found the green one (it has a lid, I was cleaning the box when my little helper jumped in) earlier in the summer from the same fleamarket.

Perfect for hiding your unfinished projects, bits and peices, scarves, hats, name it!

Monday, 27 August 2012

The weekend...

...was absolutely wonderful.

On friday evening I swam at my local outdoor swimmingpool, they had a moonlightswim-event. There were fires on the diving tower etages and along the stands. It was fairly crowded but I still managed to swim a fair length.
On saturday morning we jumped on a crowded bus to Lovisa. We walked about and looked at the beautiful houses, the gardens, the appletrees. We stumbled upon many old acqauintances (some whom lived in Lovisa and some even had their homes showed). We dined, enjoyed coffee and buns in a lovely café, later some wine in the evening sun and caught a bus back home! We both dozed off onboard!
On sunday we had breakfast in town and took a long stroll along the shore. In sunshine.

Weekends like these will make the long winter seem less long, when one can remember such easy joyful end of summer days.

Above is a little hook with a porclain nob and a porclain numberplate, both found in separate fleamarkets in Lovisa. I just thought they looked quite like a pair, so I threw them up in my hallway. Very important in case I forget where oh where did I leave my hat. Hook number 28! That's where I left it!

It's time to go for a run.

Friday, 24 August 2012

I've been counting days for friday to finally arrive, though to be honest I've not had much time to do so...
The week has been packed with work, jooga, running, my knitting-group kicked off this season last night. Tonight I'm going to attend a candlelight (or moonlight) swim in a nearby outdoor swimming pool. I think it must be a perfect way to end the working week.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend!

Above is a little wooden bird adoring a framed bicykle.

Saturday, 18 August 2012

Oh, last night after a wonderful dinner at Manuel's, we cykled to café Engel and their outdoor cinema to watch Alamar. A wonderful, funny and touching film.
I recommend it with all my heart.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend!

Hot jooga, running, dinner, culture walks and cykling

That is what my evenings this week are made of.

I signed up for 2 hrs long culture walk in my nearby neighbourhood. I love walking sightseeings. And learning more about places I pass in my everyday life.
Hot jooga starts tomorrow. Can't wait. The first time I ever tried hot jooga, I cried, because I was so extremely flexible. Or at least that is how it felt.
I have another night cykling coming up on saturday, we're doing my absolute favorite route. I planned it!
On friday I have been invited to my spanish friend Manuel for a dinnerparty. Once again, I'm in for a real treat. My spanish friends are excellent chefs, and me, I am weak for spanish dishes.
And of course, I shall go out running aswell.

As most of my evenings are booked, I had a wonderful lazy monday evening at home. We're talking chocolate and movie.

Now it's time to catch some sleep. Good night!

Picture from my hall. In the mirror you can see my asian string-puppet. My flatmate;)

So much fun

Is going on. Jeeeee!

Last night I met up with a friend, we enjoyed blinis and vodka, the russian way. Staggered home a little tipsy! But wow, was it delicious! And fantastic conversation!
Now I'm off to Tampere, there's a theatre festival (Tampereen teatterikesä) on at the moment and I am going to see my darling friend Karen perfom her one woman show called Love me or leave me.

Above is my shadowbox with a theatrecostume.

Happy weekend!

Replacing a laundry basket lid. Worth blogging about.

I have a little nook in my toilet, stashed inbetween my toilet seat and basin. A perfect spot for a laundry basket. I like my laundry basket. Very good purchaise many many years ago. I also like the upper picture, it's fairly tidy. But reality has been a little different, I don't have much space in there, especialy not for placing things on, like a surfice. And since I at times have to give in and think useful and practical instead of esthetics, I replaced the basket lid with a tray. I am pleased with the outcome. Seen in the second image.
So these are the huge, very challenging changes I've been forced to make in order to create a working everyday life;)
I keep my toiletrolls in a rusty old watering can. Very handy.

I am going to see a play tonight. At a café.

We had a great ride last night. We cykled along the shores again, but took a different destination with sand roads. One would not have believed we were in the city! Fantastic moon, velvet sky, long shadows, city-silhouettes in the distance, the scent of the sea, the august night. I simply love cykling at night!

Saturday, 4 August 2012

Woke up to a certain someone demanding food;) So had to get up (I am defenately a servant in this household) and then decided to make myself some breakfast aswell.

Yesterday I carried home a shelf, on my back. Cykling. It isn't heavy, but I certainly made people smile!

Tonight we are cykling again, night-cykling makes me very happy! This song by Mariska makes me want to cykle, I can feel the wind on my face and how this song feels in me when cykling fast! Can't wait for the album to be released!

Happy weekend!

Picked raspberries from our garden. Took me 5 minutes to pick these. The bowl is almost as big in real as in the picture. So there's hardly more than 35 raspberries :D

I also met a snail with a clam on it's back, hanging onto a branch! A rather challenging terrain for a snail. Though a snail might wish for some challenge in life too;)

Unfinished projects

The book-project I can (and will!) finish. But. I doubt the basil will grow into a plant;) Oh dear. Luckily my whole household isn't cramped with unfinished projects. For years I had a large project called "complete all unfinished projects". So I completed my knitting projects, a few sweaters and socks. Completed a bag. Of some projects I thought, no, I don't feel like completing them, so I undid a few knitting projects and gave the thread to charity.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to complete the chair-project:(
I was in the middle of renovating my apartment, moving and in the middle of a divorce. Most people never noticed it (the back of the chair was undone). I never sat in it. I found it really hard to even think of starting work on the chair. And it ate me because I seldom leave things half-way or undone. Until one day last month, I decided that I do not want the chair. It had a negative feel to it. And the reason is that it was my therapy chair, when my life was about to fall apart and I needed something to do in my sparetime (there wasn't very much of that) so that I wouldn't fall apart myself.
Getting rid of the chair really made a difference. First of all, it isn't there anymore to remind me DAILY of what a lousy person I am who cannot complete a project. Which isn't true, so I don't need to take that sort of attitude from a chair! And secondly, the chair is filled with sorrow and sadness and longing and hurting. Of course I don't want to sit in it!
This must be fengshui?
