No question about it.

This is made of tin. It says so on the bottom. In very beautiful letters. That's good. So that no one would mistake it for anything fancier. But I find tin quite fancy. Though we all know my good taste don't we, eh? Souvenirs and trash, that's my cup of tea!
Well, I pimped it slightly. The tiny knob used to look like old chewed chewing-gum. Yak! No-one wants to touch a chewed chewing-gum knob! So I painted it with red nailpolish! And now everyone wants to see what's inside;)

Friday. Shall go for long run in the centralpark and then sauna!

I can pretend

I took a cruise onboard m/s Kungsholm. But I haven't even seen the vessel. But for some reason I hold in my posession the spoon pictured above. I think it's lovely. Oh my, I may have a weak spot for souvenirs. Oh dear...sighs loudly. Fleamarkets are filled, no packet, with abandoned souvenirs. Is my destiny to give them all a chance, perhaps a new home...shall I now welcome the Rhodes plates, the Lanzarote tea-towels, the Bulgarian ceramic bowls and cups, oh dear me...

Who dimmed the lights?

And who turned the heating off?
Woke up in the morning and it was freezing! I had to close the window. Told the cat to put the kettle on and make us some hot tea. She just looked at me. Lazy thing!
It has been terribly cold today, one needs gloves when cykling about! In june?!!

Picture me drinking tea, wearing wollen socks and sweater and gloves. No. I wish I could ask you to picture me sipping mojitos wearing nothing;)

And since someone dimmed the lights, here are dimmed images of my ladder/ bookshelf. I keep some of my books displayed as I enjoy their covers. I change them according to season, mood, flowers...

Rain and Kvitka

It has been raining for two days! I am listening to Kvitka (Ukrainian singer)and feeling wonderfully nostalgic and sentimental. Here is a wonderful song, enjoy!

I'm meeting a friend for coffee this afternoon, she has been away far too long, and now returned to Finland. I am very happy to see my dear friend P again.

Above is a cover form a 1930's finnish magazine. The cover is painted by Martta Wendelin, famous for her magazine covers and cards. I have decorated our stairway with magazine covers by her. They are so beautiful.

Rain rain, go away!

The dinosaur-altar

received a midsummer-bouquet;)

Friday, 22 June 2012

That means midsummer, it is more commonly used in the south-west.

It's warm and sunny! I have friends arriving and have plenty of lovely food and champagne!

Here is a lovely symphony by finnish composer Jean Sibelius, enjoy!

Thursday, 21 June 2012

Is just around the corner.
I have prepared foods and shall go hunt for a few more champagne-glasses. I still have plenty of champagne and wine left from my birthday in january.  I think now is the perfect time  to empty the cupboards;) I shall rise a glass for all of you my dear friends.

The flowers pictured above shall decorate my chocolate cake. I make a thin mudcake, top it with glazing, decorate the outerline with cream and finish off with eatable flowers. I add a little elderflower-juice to the glazing, adds a wondeeful flavour. That's my little secret to delicate summer desserts.

                                                              Happy midsummer!

I have noticed someone. That is nice. I have been noticed too. That is even nicer.

Tail has been dipped!

In the sea. It was oh so cold but oh so wonderful!
Today it is pouring down with rain - I enjoy that too. I'm off to my dear friend R, she is hosting a lunch. R is from Spain and creates the most wonderful dishes, just mentioning them makes my mouth water;) Lucky me! She has the most wonderful daughter, Luna, and when she visits she always asks for this puzzle, if she can play with it. Even though I don't have children of my own, I have a small collection of toys puzzles books, because I want children to feel welcome.

Happy rainy sunday!

...the fact I was a fish in my previous life, it is odd that I have not yet dipped my tail in water.

Happy weekend friends. I shall attend the opening of Sami Parkkinens exhibition at Taidehalli tonight. You might remember him from the artwork I purchaised last summer and how I had it re-framed.
Before the exhibition I must try to get as much work done as possible. I have to restrain from ice-cream and flirting with guy in the corner shop! Well, maybe I can flirt a little in the afternoon...but only a little;) And life without ice-cream is no life!

Who said you can't have a herb garden in your livingroom? Above is my mint and basil happily together with an orchid. In bloom. The orchid flowers were far too proud to be pictured together with the herbs. They are not happy with this arrangement and have filed a complaint. Seriously! The orchid is happy and I have noticed the basil and the orchid are touching, very discreetly, but the flowers, they are appalled and do not accept this. Very conservative I must say. I've tried to talk sence into them, a little summer-romance does no-one harm!

Working from home on a sunny day

Wake up, have breakfast, enjoy coffee in the sun, mow the lawn, shower, make more coffee, read e-mails, send off article, like stuff on facebook, write e-mails, make lunch, chat to neighbour, comment on facebook, drink coffee, start writing on a new article, listen to a band rehersing in your garden, buy ice-cream, flirt with guy in the corner shop, talk on the phone, shop for groceries, flirt with guy in the corner-shop again, go for a run, shower again, make dinner, stuff yourself with chocolate...look at started article - it has a headline. ONLY!!!!! And it's 8.15p.m.!!!!

Above is a tinted ensyclopedia page. I tinted it last night. My goodness, I better make some more coffee and get started on that article. I need to have something more than a headline before I go to bed.

Wednesday hello

It's very sunny and warm here in Helsinki and yesterday our capital celebrated 200yrs as capital of Finland. At the time (1812) it was the autonomous grand duchy of Finland, ruled under tsar Alexander I of Russia.
I'm busy working but also enjoying time with friends and enjoying this wonderful city, in summerbloom.

The lady above is not very summery - but she has most certainly lived her glorydays during the era of the Russian imperial dynasty. It has russian stamps, I cannot read the postmark - it's adressed to a family living in Helsinki. I bought it in a famous antiquarian in Helsinki, Hagelstams, many many years ago. If you happen to visit our lovely city, it's worth taking a stroll in the neighbourhood and also visit the antiquarian, there is a certain atmosphere inside, it has history written in it's walls. I also enjoy their windowstyling with books, maps and other fascinating ephemera.

Whilst eating breakfast I heard churchbells ringing from the many small churches nearby. I like the sound. Though I'm no churchgoer myself.
I'm meeting up with my friend M today. She has moved, or is in the middle of moving and decorating. I have planned the interior of her apartment and I woke up to a very very happy txt this morning. My friend is so happy with the result. Wasabi green in the kitchen, against white cupboards and whitewashed floors. She has a wonderful old white table and 12 white chairs in the kitchen. Perfect for hosting dinners for friends. The living room is a combination of two different colours, a darker latte and dark grey/ almost blue shade. The furniture are all old and large and heavy, dark wood. And an antique rug. She has heavy linen curtains and they will look so good against the walls. The hall is white with one wall in lime-yellow. The apartment is beautiful, high ceilings and wooden floors. I am only a little jealous;) Looking forward to those dinners...and so happy to have my dear friend so close. Her apartment is only 15 minutes away.

I do enjoy this cover of Bob Dylan's beautiful Ring them bells.

The sun is out. Taking a little ride before meeting M. Have a wonderful sunday dear friends.

Above is one postcard of my wast collection of vintage bathing beauties. I used to have a cluster wall in my bathroom made up of these beauties.

Thursday morning

Drinking coffee, listening to Baden Powell, burning candles, there's a light breeze from the open window. And I'm certain that is Baden with the top hat...

Could life be better? No I don't think so. I wouldn't change a thing.

Wednesday, 6 June 2012

...that is what this little thing is called. I am using it constantly. Not only for all the endless amounts of spirits one has to endulge whilst working hard;)

Monday, 4 June 2012

The season for picking rosepetals is here. I usually pick petals in the evening, place them close to my bed or preferably close to my pillow that is close to my head meaning close to my that I get to fall asleep with the scent of roses. Oh my, how romantic isn't that!
And this petite bowl must be made for this purpose. Only. Isn't it just perfect for rosepetals?
Some may argue that it was made for something else. But I will not hear any arguments. I have decided to be dogmatic about this matter;)

Sunday, 3 June 2012

I walked home (it's a long walk, 8km!) in the mild clear night. The birdsong, the breeze, the colours, the scents. Summernights. There's just something very magic about them;)
I picked these flowers on the way. I have a huuuuuuge blister on my little toe, I wasn't wearing hikingshoes...

It's finally june! Officially summer!
Melody Gardot released a new album, by the sound of it, this might be my summer treat...this is Mira from the new album the absence. Enjoy! I'm waiting for my copy to arrive in the mail.

Happy weekend! I have an invitation to a housewarming/ birthdayparty tomorrow that I am very mucho looking forward to. I shall wear heels, a vintage flamenco-skirt and a flower-headband. I love the skirt, it is so summery and I enjoy the feel of the heavy fabric against my thighs when I walk;)
