I met up with my friend K on friday. We dined at a lovely restaurant and were both charmed by our waitress. We complimented her upon our departure and she told us it was her first shift at this restaurant. One would never have guessed. What a professional!

On saturday we celebrated my parents golden anniversary. Yes, they have been married for 50 years! Family and friends were gathered at my parents summerhouse and we dined in their garden and drank plenty champagne. My mother had asked me to perform a few songs - I felt it was an honour to sing for them. Later we formed a "jamming band" with guitars, piano, violin and harmonicas and me singing (again!). Oh what joy! My mum cried and said over and over again "I shall never forget this". It most certainly was a lovely warm celebration of love and none of us shall forget this sunny day.
This is one of the songs I performed, called Kärleksvisa.

Above are new (vintage) food cups for my cat Muru bought at Butik Sophie. I think they look so lovely. The bigger one is a teacup and the smaller a coffecup. It is the traditional danish musselmalet-pattern. As waterbowls I use traditional café au lait bowls. What a spoiled cat! In fact, it is more spoiling me, as I simply find the ordinary foodbowls for pets so boring;)

The nights are dark now. I burn candles. I love the reflections they make in the window. And taking pictures makes everything look unreal. Where did almost half of the base of the candleholder dissapear...?
The mercury glass candleholder is very old and most of the silvering is gone, but I find it a charming piece. And very heavy!
Good night!

Tuesday afternoon

Met my friend this afternoon and his 3 year old. We lay in hammocks chatting and napping and enjoying coffee and the sudden strong winds and very dark clouds moving in from over the sea.

I also found a pair of dotted tights for one euro on sale. Oh joy! I love dots! I am prepared for autumn. But not ready. There's a huge difference;)

A little sunday report

Last night I attended (and organised) the first night bike ride for this season. We cykled along the shores of Helsinki for about 2hrs. Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day but in the evening it suddenly started to pour down with rain. I decided to still go ahead with the ride. The closer we got to departure the rain slowly moved away and we experienced a fabulous sunset. The city with it's shores and the sea was so beautiful. I was a very happy gal falling asleep! But before I went to bed I may accidentally have come up with the absolute best combo ever: natural youghurt, pumpkin seeds and honey. Try! I promise you'll love it!
I woke up this morning to a sunny warm day. Had brekky and a little snooze and then I took my bike for a local ride. I found a fleamarket that was packed with people. I found a fabulous old Venezia pennant - great, now I can pretend I've been to Venice (yes - I am most defenately fulfilling my destiny of giving a home for abandoned souvenirs! Please see this post ). I also bought a fabulous shoehorn. All I need is shoes that I need a shoehorn for.

Living well!

Oh joy, this has been a lovely summer!
Found the buddha in a fleamarket for 0,10euros and it shows how well we are doing!
Enjoy life, enjoy each other and love!

I love using vintage lacecollars with longsleeved t-shirts and of course, top it of with a Ninitchi-brooch. And pearls with knots;)

A new painting

I have today received my latest addition to my artcollection. The top painting is new, by Gustav Wiklund, it's a watercolour and I think it goes so well with the barn below.
And pardon the poor quality of the picture, the glass easily reflects when taking pictures...

It is raining in Helsinki, so a perfect day to stay indoors and sew, make fishsoup (I am addicted!) listen to good music, and every once in a while, sit down with a glass of homemade ice-tea and enjoy the new painting.

Have a happy sunday dear friends!

I seem to be...

...on a very lucky path when it comes to finding stuff at fleamarkets. I mean, what are the odds, that you find the perfect little row of hooks and it fits perfectly in a little nook in my hall. And I didn't have the measures with me! I've been looking for hooks for my keys and other important stuff. Lucky me!
I keep fresh rosepetals in the champagne glass;) But these petals are a few days old.

Today has been a rather grey day here in Helsinki, I made fishsoup earlier in the day and the scent made me so hungry, I've had two bowls already!

I'm still on holiday!

And having a blast! The weather has been wonderful and I know some pretty amazing people and Helsinki is a wonderful summer-city!
Came home last night at 3am. happy as a bird, after cykling along the shore for a few hours after spending a night out with friends - it was all too lovely to go home emmediately and just go to sleep!

I am happy. I hope you are too.

Above are some rusty and dusty details from my home.

I have been humming to this and it seems to go very well with my image...

I almost forgot!

The most important thing to do when on holiday: flirt with guy in the cornershop.

Out of office

Is what I shall be. I am on holiday!

I shall enjoy outdoor night-movies, swimming, lots of yoga, cykling, friends, food, ice-cream, reading the paper on the stairs, running, late mornings, reading, crochet-project, cafés, the archipelago...

Enjoy this season, don't forget to love and respect <3

This is Cornelis Vreeswijks Turistens klagan, most swedes are probably really fed up with this song, sorry, but it doesn't play on the radio often in Finland. I love the kids;)

Alison and stuff

I'll start with stuff. Lots of it. I have completed project "clear cellar". I cannot for the life of me understand why I must keep certain things, and these certain things is what I would call stuff. After I completed the project I looked like stuff myself;)  I bumped into my neighbour when taking stuff to the sorting station and he laughed, he said I looked like a character in a film! Great!

Last night me and my friend S enjoyed Alison Krauss and the Union Station in consert. What joy to hear such clear harmonies and such talented musicians. I love bluegrass. Who would have guessed? Here is Paper Airplane. Enjoy!
Later we met up with my irish friend K, who is in Helsinki for the summer, studying finnish. Seriously! We had a blast and I once again almost fell off a chair laughing so much. What is it with me and chairs?

Above is an image I find a little funny. I can't put my finger on why I find it funny or perhaps a little odd. It's from my kitchen shelf. Onion basket and an old beverage bottle. It still has the old cork left. Very little of it.

A good sunday night consists of...

... chocolate, a purring and sometimes snoring cat and Miss Marple; Sleeping Murder. It was so scary at times I had to turn of the sound;) Now I curse my laziness that I didn't change the lightbulb in the hall (it's a little tricky to change as it has an old glassdome which is a little tricky to loosen and and it is so high up I need a ladder...) but it's dark now and a little scary as there are mirrors and I hate walking through as you can spot things even if you are walking past quickly. I sometimes wish I didn't have this kind of imagination. I cannot watch any horror films, but now we're talking Miss Marple...how scary is that?

Above is my thymeplant that I use almost daily. I so enjoy these herb-signs made of cutlery.
